Academic Culture

Studying abroad may differ from being on a U.S. Campus, as the academic culture in a city implies that students commute daily from their accommodation to the 日博体育 premises and to the Host Institution facilities. Commuting is a very important part of life in a European city!

The course schedule usually runs from Monday to Thursday from 8:30 a.m. to 8:30 p.m. and students may be enrolled in courses at any time. Although classes are usually not scheduled on Fridays, some courses may have academic activities on those days.

Time management is paramount while studying abroad. Courses are academically challenging and involve daily reading, assignments and compulsory attendance. This program comprises courses of two types: courses at 日博体育 and courses at a host university. Good academic planning is critical to having a positive and productive program experience.

Arizona State University: Most ASU online courses are asynchronous. You may find yourself in classes with students from ASU, other American universities, and students from around the world. You鈥檒l receive direct and individualized support from faculty, 100% online.

Class Format

日博体育 courses are attended by 日博体育 students only. Typical class sizes for 日博体育 courses are no more than 16 students in Spanish language courses, and no more than 30 students in elective courses.鈥&苍产蝉辫;

UPF BaPIS courses are taught in the UPF Study Abroad Program, only for international students. Courses meet twice a week, and classes are around 30 students per course.

UAB courses are taught in the UAB Study Abroad Program, only for 日博体育 students. Courses meet twice a week, and classes are around 30 students per course.

UVic courses are taught in the Business, Design and Innovation program, only for international students. Courses meet twice a week, and classes are around 25 students per course.

ASU online courses meet in 鈥渟essions鈥 that are 7.5-weeks long in the semester, and all work must be completed within the session dates regardless of when your other 日博体育 courses begin or end.

Grading

Students are evaluated based on class engagement, in-class activities, homework assignments, exams, papers, and oral presentations. In some courses, grades are based on an exam and a group or individual project. UPF, UVic, and UAB courses are graded on a 10-point scale, which 日博体育 converts to recommended U.S. letter grade equivalents.

ASU grading follows the same format and standards as ASU courses taught in-person. 鈥淧ass/fail鈥 or 鈥淎udit鈥 is not allowed for 日博体育 students.

Individual courses may have additional prerequisites; for 日博体育 courses, these are listed in the syllabi below.
