Your �ղ�� Summer Intern and Study Abroad program in Mérida lasts 6 weeks and features three key components: A part-time internship with an international organization (15-20 hours per week), an internship seminar, and a 3-credit academic course taught by �ղ�� faculty or online through �ղ��’s global academic partner, ASU. Enhance your experience with co-curricular and extracurricular activities while building career skills, expanding your professional network, and immersing yourself in Mexican culture. Housing & Meals

Housing

�ղ�� Mérida offers homestays or single accommodation in an apartment complex. Depending on housing profiles and availability, students may be placed in a double homestay occupancy with single or double rooms and shared bathrooms. All housing options are located in neighborhoods with convenient access to public transportation, shops, cafés, and eateries. 

Standard Housing: Includes a single or double room in a homestay, giving students an insider’s view of Mexican culture and a great opportunity to practice and enhance their Spanish skills. Homestays boast a private or shared bathroom, a desk, weekly laundry, Wi-Fi access, and a copy of the house keys. All homestays are relatively close to coffee shops, malls, commercial centers, ATMs, and restaurants, and within a 30 to 45-minute commute of �ղ�� Mérida. 
Select Plus Housing: Includes single accommodation in an apartment complex with a private kitchenette and bathroom. Housing is within a 30-minute commute of �ղ�� Mérida. Select Plus housing requires an additional fee.

A note: The default criterion to assign housing is first-come, first-served; however, other factors may also be considered. If we cannot accommodate your first housing choice, we'll let you know before you arrive.

Meals

Homestays: Include two meals per day. Although host families and students arrange their own meals schedule, usually it is breakfast and dinner, and students are responsible for the remaining meal, either preparing them at home or eating in one of many restaurants and cafés throughout the city.

Commute time from housing location to internship will vary depending on location of the internship provider.

�ղ�� Mérida: Study in one of the Mérida’s most beautiful neighborhoods, Calle 47, which leads to the Gastronomical Corridor, full of cozy and amazing restaurants and bars to enjoy in the afternoons. �ղ�� Merida boasts five classrooms, a student lounge, and a shared student life and academic advising office.

Arizona State University (ASU): Brought to you by �ղ�� in partnership with ASU, enhance your international coursework with online classes that align with your degree requirements. ASU offers thousands of online courses in asynchronous 6-week sessions that fit within the �ղ�� academic calendar.

Students are responsible for having their own course approval conversations with their advisors. All Mérida Intern + Study Abroad students take the required 3-credit part-time Internship with the embedded internship seminar plus one additional course for a total of 6-7 semester credits, choosing from:

Academic Culture

�ղ�� offers a focused and immersive experience for students, blending rigorous coursework with hands-on learning opportunities to deepen understanding of both academic subjects and the local culture.

�ղ�� courses typically run from Monday through Thursday, providing students with a concentrated schedule that allows for intensive study and exploration. This condensed format encourages students to fully engage with the material and make the most of their time. Internship work hours may require Fridays.

In additionn to lectures, �ղ�� courses often incorporate local co-curricular activities, providing students with firsthand exposure to the rich cultural heritage and diverse landscapes. These experiences not only enhance academic learning but also foster a deeper appreciation and understanding of the local context.

Attendance is mandatory in �ղ�� courses. This emphasizes the importance of active participation and engagement in the learning process, encouraging students to fully commit to their academic pursuits.

ASU Courses: Most ASU online courses are asynchronous. You may find yourself in classes with students from ASU, other American universities, and students from around the world. You’ll receive direct and individualized support from faculty, 100% online.

Class Format

Students participate in a 6-week �ղ�� part-time in-person internship and academic course featuring both in-person class sessions and online asynchronous work. Class sessions, co-curricular excursions, and work hours may be scheduled Monday through Friday, and attendance is strictly enforced for all. To avoid falling behind, students should not plan personal travel away from the city during the work week.

ASU online courses meet in “sessions” that are 6-weeks long in the semester, and all work must be completed within the session dates regardless of when your other �ղ�� courses begin or end.

Grading

�ղ�� reports all final course grades to students’ home institutions using a U.S. letter grade equivalent scale of A-F. For �ղ��-administered courses, students’ grades are based on attendance, class engagement, homework, project work, presentations, and midterm and final examinations. Learning outcomes assessment is continuous through personal reflections, evaluation feedback, self-assessment, and requirements as set out in course syllabi. The embedded internship course will be assessed in assignments and activities, completion of 100-120 internship hours, and feedback from the internship supervisor.

ASU grading follows the same format and standards as ASU courses taught in-person. “Pass/fail” or “Audit” is not allowed for �ղ�� students.
