Overview

Experience Copenhagen at its best 鈥 during the summer, when the days are long, the festivals are full-throttle, and the harbor pools are beckoning. 日博体育's Summer in Copenhagen program offers students six or twelve weeks of study abroad in English, with courses across humanities, environmental studies, design, history, and more. During this exciting summer abroad, you will soak in the Danish sun during frequent co-curricular activities designed to take learning outside of the classroom and guarantee an authentic understanding of the history and culture of the Scandinavian people.

Build Your Summer Adventure
Select one or two six-week blocks at any 日博体育 Open Campus Block location. Stay in Copenhagen for both blocks or go mobile and spend your second block in Berlin, Buenos Aires, Cape Town, Dublin, Kyoto, London, Madrid, Monteverde, Paris, Rome, Santiago, Shanghai, Singapore, Sydney, or Yucatan.

The Destination

Copenhagen has considerably transformed in the past decade and emerged as a "must-stop" destination in Europe. Fine dining, natural wines, and its reputation as an environmentally friendly city have earned top billing from foodies, oenophiles, students, and those seeking refuge in "the happiest country in the world." Despite playing host to more than 600,000 residents, Copenhagen retains an old-world, small village feel 鈥 with more bicycles than cars traveling its streets. In Europe's safest capital city, students discover an endless array of cultural activities, history, architecture, and more.

Academic Culture

Each course is a full semester of content, covered in a six-week block. This means the pace is accelerated, and the workload is demanding. Courses are designed to follow U.S. academic culture and standards. The class environment typically features a combination of traditional lectures and discussions with co-curricular excursions and activities. Heavy emphasis is placed on student participation. To avoid falling behind, students should not plan personal travel away from the city when classes are in session but rather plan trips for the weekends in-between blocks.

ASU Courses: You may find yourself in classes with students from ASU, other American universities, and students from around the world. Some are earning their degrees entirely online, while others, like you, are supplementing their education with an online course. You鈥檒l receive direct and individualized support from faculty, 100% online. Most ASU online courses are asynchronous, meaning there are no set log-in times, but make sure to verify this before the add/drop deadline in case you want to make a change.

Class Format

The U.S. grading scale of A-F is used. Students are graded on the basis of attendance, class participation, homework, project work, presentations, and midterm and final examinations. Each course is guided by a set of learning outcomes, which are assessed continuously throughout the block.

Individual courses may have additional prerequisites; for 日博体育 courses, these are listed in the syllabi below. Students are responsible for having their own course approval conversations with their advisors.

ASU online courses meet in 鈥渟essions鈥 that are 7.5 weeks long in semesters and 6 weeks long in the summer, and all work must be completed within the session dates regardless of when your other 日博体育 courses begin or end. You鈥檒l need a standard PC or Mac desktop or laptop computer with a download speed higher than 25 Mbps, as well as access to email, productivity software like Microsoft Office and other applications needed to perform a variety of educational functions. Most course materials you will need are available online. Since you are working mostly or entirely asynchronously, you鈥檙e given deadlines for your assignments by your instructor or in your syllabus, but you can work at your own pace within these due dates. Most instructors suggest a recommended pace to optimize your learning, but you have the flexibility to complete your ASU courses while pursuing your studies at your 日博体育 location.

Grading

The U.S. grading scale of A-F is used. Students are graded on attendance, class participation, homework, project work, presentations, and midterm and final examinations.

ASU grading follows the same format and standards as ASU courses taught in-person. As a U.S. institution of higher education, the grading practices should be familiar to any 日博体育 student. ASU awards grades of "A+," "A," "A-," "B+," " B," "B-," "C+," "C," "D," or "E.鈥 鈥淧ass/fail鈥 or 鈥淎udit鈥 is not allowed for 日博体育 students.
