Your �ղ�� Semester Global Internship program in Monteverde lasts 12 weeks and features three key components: A full-time internship with an international organization (approximately 30 hours per week), an internship seminar, and the option to take a course taught online through �ղ��’s global academic partner, ASU. Housing

�ղ�� Monteverde students live in on-campus residence halls surrounded by the Cloud Forest in triple or quad rooms shared with other �ղ�� students. Rooms have shared or ensuite bathrooms, shared desks, and shared closets.

Standard Housing: Includes a shared room with bunkbeds (occupancy is three to four students) on campus located under 15 minutes from the main campus area, where the dining hall and classrooms are located.

A note: The default criterion to assign housing is first-come, first-served; however, other factors may also be considered. If we cannot accommodate your first housing choice, we'll let you know before you arrive. Non-standard housing options require an additional fee that can be found in the program Dates and Fees.

Meals

All students receive three meals per day.

�ղ�� Monteverde: Study in the beautiful town of San Luis in Costa Rica’s Puntarenas Province, surrounded by lush forests and beautiful coffee farms. �ղ�� Monteverde is fully equipped with three classrooms, a student lounge, a library, a student life office, and an academic advising office.

Arizona State University (ASU): Brought to you by �ղ�� in partnership with ASU, enhance your international coursework with online classes that align with your degree requirements. ASU offers thousands of online courses in asynchronous 7.5-week sessions that fit within the �ղ�� academic calendar.

Requirements

All Global Semester Internship participants take the 9-credit full-time internship with the required embedded internship seminar, plus an optional ASU online course (ASU session A in spring, and ASU session B in fall) for a total of 9-13 semester credits.

�ղ�� internship: 9 U.S. semester credits/13.5 quarter credits; 45 hours of in-person and asynchronous online learning activities and a minimum of 360 internship placement hours.
ASU online courses: Typically 3 - 4 U.S. semester/4.5-6 quarter credits; 45-60 contact hours

Academic Culture

�ղ�� courses are designed to follow U.S. academic culture and standards. The integrated academic course, which correlates with the internship, is taught in-person and asychronously. Students are expected to dress and behave professionally throughout their internship and are subject to the agreed-upon internship protocols arranged by �ղ�� and the host organization.

ASU Courses: Most ASU online courses are asynchronous. You may find yourself in classes with students from ASU, other American universities, and students from around the world. You’ll receive direct and individualized support from faculty, 100% online.

Class Format

Students participate in a full-time in-person internship and required academic course featuring both in-person class sessions and online asynchronous work designed to help students develop professional and intercultural competencies to complement their internship experience.

ASU online courses meet in “sessions” that are 7.5-weeks long in the semester, and all work must be completed within the session dates regardless of when your other �ղ�� courses begin or end.

Grading

The U.S. grading scale of A-F is used. Students are graded on the basis of in-class and online engagement and preparation, and specific assessments such as project work, presentations, and examinations.

ASU grading follows the same format and standards as ASU courses taught in-person. “Pass/fail” or “Audit” is not allowed for �ղ�� students.

Community Garden Intern Fall 2025 Community Garden Intern Monteverde, Costa Rica Job Type Agriculture Company Industry Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources About the Role The intern will assist in the every day management of the community garden doing routine chores such as weeding, planting and harvesting. Additionally a special project will be assigned according to the needs of the garden and the interest of the intern.
